Rennes vs PSG Betting and Match Preview

Written By Alex Blowers on October 1, 2021

On Sunday, it’s Rennes turn to host PSG and their wealth of talent. The game will be shown live on beIN Sports, with kick-off scheduled for 3PM EST.

Both sides are coming off great results in Europe. PSG kickstarted their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City. A piece of Lionel Messi magic in the 74th minute sealed the win. Rennes came from 1-0 down to beat Vitesse 2-1 in the Europa Conference League.

Read on for my match preview, bringing you all the latest team news, recent form, and stats to help you make better Rennes vs. PSG betting choices.

Rennes vs PSG Betting and Match Preview

Out: Jeremy Doku (Hamstring), Jeremy Gelin (ACL)
Doubtful: Lovro Majer (Unknown),
Suspended: None
Coach: Bruno Genesio

I think Bruno Genesio will go with the same starting eleven and 4-4-2 formation he selected against Bordeaux last weekend. Gaëtan Laborde scored his 5th Ligue 1 goal of the season, and Rennes should have got all 3 points. Two minutes from time, poor defending at a corner and a couple of deflections allowed Edson Maxer to equalize.

Striker M’Baye Niang joined Bordeaux this week. French clubs get a ‘joker’ – one loan transfer within French clubs that can take place outside of the window – and they decided to use it on the Senegalese international.

Belgian international Jeremy Doku is still recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up back in late August.

Rennes vs PSG Betting and Match Preview

Out: Sergio Ramos (Thigh), Juan Bernat (Torn ACL), Colin Dagba (Ankle)
Doubtful: Marco Verratti (Knee), Layvin Kurzawa (Calf), Lionel Messi (Knee)
Suspended: None
Coach: Mauricio Pochettino

PSG now sits top of Ligue 1 and 9 points ahead of second-placed RC Lens. With the league title already looking decided by October, Mauricio Pochettino can turn his attention to fine-tuning his side for the UEFA Champions League.

Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé will start in the front three as Poch looks to mold them into a devastating attacking trident. The issue with these three is you won’t get much pressing, tracking back, or defensive work, so he has to find the right combination in the middle of the park.

At this moment, Marco Verratti holding at the base of midfield dictating play with Idrissa Gueye and Georginio Wijnaldum beside him, putting the yards in looks to be the best option.

It’s looking like Summer signing Nuno Mendes will be the first choice left-back after starting ahead of Abdou Diallo against Manchester City.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way. PSG are going to win this game to make it nine wins out of nine in Ligue 1. Messi’s goal against City feels like the catalyst to kickstart his PSG career, and the whole team will be full of confidence and belief after that win.

Rennes are down in 13th with 9 points and are coming off a difficult away trip to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League where they had to battle from 1-0 down and play the last 17 minutes with 10 men.

With PSG at -180 on the Moneyline, it isn’t the most attractive odds. Let’s turn our attention to the Game Parlay market on DraftKings to boost the odds. In their last five games, PSG have averaged 2.4 goals scored and 0.4 goals conceded, which works out to a difference of 2 goals.

I’m going to play this safe and Parlay PSG’s win with at least two goals scored. If you want better odds, you can back Over 2.5 Goals instead, but with a difference of 40 between the two lines, I don’t think it’s a risk worth taking.

BETTING TIP: Parlay PSG To Win and Over 1.5 Goals -125
RISKIER BETTING TIP: Parlay PSG To Win and Over 2.5 Goals +115
