Serie A Best and Worse Kits

INTER MILAN’S TITLE DEFENSE ALREADY FALLING APART

Reigning champions Inter Milan kick off their season against Genoa at the San Siro on Saturday. Inter’s title defense is already in doubt after manager Antonio Conte left in the summer by mutual consent. Financial troubles forced them to sell Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, Achraf Hakimi to PSG, and Ashley Young and Radja Nainggolan left after their contracts expired.

The club have turned to Simone Inzaghi to steady the ship and signed right-back Denzel Dumfries who impressed at Euro 2020 for the Netherlands, 21-year-old center-back Zinho Vanheusden from Standard Liège, and Edin Džeko and Hakan Çalhanoglu on free transfers.

JOSÉ MOURINHO PREPARING ROMA FOR BATTLE

Everyone was caught by surprise when it was announced that José Mourinho would be Roma‘s new manager. His only spell in the country was with Inter Milan 2008-2010, where he led them to the Serie A title, Coppa Italia, and Champions League. In doing so, they became the first Italian club to complete the treble. That legendary achievement has kept his stock high in the country despite his recent struggles at Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

It’s already looking like his time at Roma will be packed with drama and controversy. In their pre-season match against Real Betis, Mourinho and three of his players – Lorenzo Pellegrini, Gianluca Mancini, and Rick Karsdorp – were all sent off in a 5-2 defeat.

Grab the popcorn and get ready for some box office vintage Mourinho.

TAMMY ABRAHAM AGREES TO JOIN ROMA

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has agreed to join Mourinho at Roma in a $47 million deal. Despite not being a regular starter, the academy graduate scored 30 goals and provided 12 assists in 82 appearances across the last two seasons. It seems Chelsea rate him very highly as they’ve inserted a $94 million buy-back clause that becomes valid in the summer of 2023.

SERIE A BETTING: ODDS & ENDS

  • The opening weekend is always tough, and Italy’s Euro 2020 win has made it even more difficult this season. A lot of players are only just returning to pre-season and won’t be up to full fitness for a few weeks. My advice is to bet low to see what kind of form teams are in and if any trends appear.
  • I like Parlaying Atalanta and Lazio on the Moneyline at +175. Empoli are newly promoted, and Torino finished 18th last season 4 points above relegation.
  • I like Both Teams To Score YES and Over 2.5 Goals at +115 in Juventus‘ match against Udinese. That bet has cashed in their last three meetings.
  • AC Milan on the Moneyline at -120 is good value. I’m a huge fan of Olivier Giroud and think he will make a big impact in Serie A.
