Usain Bolt Retiring from Soccer and Sports in General

They say “all good things must come to an end.” The same holds true for well-intentioned vanity projects.

Usain Bolt has retired from playing professional soccer.

It Was Fun While It Lasted…

In an interview with Rueters, Bolt says the experience of playing soccer and being part of a team was “fun while it lasted.”

He also says he’s done with sports, and will now focus on being “a businessman.”

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, and he tried minor league baseball. Minor league baseball was better off for it, and ultimately so was Jordan. If Bolt wanted to try his hand foot at soccer, good for him. It wasn’t like he was abjectly terrible. He scored just as many goals this season for Australian A-League’s Central Coast Mariners FC as Christian Pulisic has for Borussia Dortmund (yeah it’s not apples-to-apples, but still…).

If anything, we’d have liked to seen Bolt give soccer a longer run. Alas, he’s only meant for short, attention-grabbing bursts.
