USWNT Squeaks by Spain 1-0 on Christen Press Stunner

After an uncharacteristic shellacking by France this weekend, the USWNT rebounded(?) today with a 1-0 victory against Spain.

Spain out-possessed the US 52% – 48%. The US registered more shots on goal (9 to 4) and on target (3 to 2). When the USWNT is firing on all cylinders, this is a game they’d typically blow the doors off a team ranked 12th globally like Spain.

Having said that, Christen Press (no relation to High Press Soccer) literally did blow the doors off Spain’s backline for this 54′ go-ahead goal.

While these World Cup warm-ups likely won’t impact 2019 Women’s World Cup futures, and it’s way too early to start hitting the panic button for the USWNT, it’ll be interesting to see if the squad finds its form again in the SheBelieves Cup on February 27th vs. Japan.
