The competition has four of the top 10 ranked FIFA women’s teams in what should be a fiercely contested affair. The USWNT is looking to rebound from an uncharacteristically poor showing in Europe last month. All teams view this competition as a crucial tune-up for the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France this summer.
The USWNT, reigning champs of this event, will carry the same 23-player squad as they had in Europe. The SheBelieves Cup is their last major event before the World Cup, with only friendlies scheduled after this.
One thing to watch for is what adjustments (if any) are made to the backline. The typically solid defense was leaky and over-powered against France. Brazil and England (a squad increasingly focused on establishing themselves globally) present high-octane offenses that will require more organized play than what was shown earlier this year.
On offense, one player who shined against Spain was Christen Press. Watch for how coach Jill Ellis looks to integrate her more in the attack with Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, particularly using her speed on counters.
What’s the Marquee Match-Up?
If you only have time for one game, the true test of form for the USWNT is against England on Saturday, March 2nd. England has risen to 4th in the world in FIFA’s rankings and are looking for a signature win to propel them into the World Cup this summer.
And Just Because It’s Awesome…
We gotta close with that Nike ad…dream crazy.
