The Champions League plans to return in August and UEFA has made a draft schedule.
Or so says ESPN FC via leaked documents to Corriere dello Sport.
Champions League resumes August 7th
The leaked docs outline the proposed UEFA schedule:
UCL play would resume on August 7th with Juventus hosting Lyon. Manchester City, who flagrantly broke FFP rules and will be banned from the competition next season, will host Real Madrid.
The tournament would rush through matches the rest of August, with the final being played in Istanbul on August 29th.
Does this leaked schedule make sense?
It actually does. Domestic leagues are all trending to wrap play from May – July. That leaves August open to finish the Champions and Europa League.
If domestic competitions do move ahead as most are currently planning, expect this schedule to mostly hold as is.
August will be a helluva month.
